Public Notice: Buckeye Reclamation - Five-Year Review Begins
Summary
Five-Year Review Begins
U.S. EPA is conducting a five-year review of the Buckeye Reclamation site located about 4 miles southeast of St. Clairsville and 1.2 miles south of Interstate 70 in Belmont County, Ohio. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This is the fifth five-year review of this site.
U.S. EPA’s cleanup at the site included placing a solid waste cap over areas where landfill activities occurred; constructing a wetland area to treat the liquid that drains from the landfill, also known as leachate; long-term monitoring; and limiting the use of and access to the site.
More information is available at the St. Clairsville Public Library, 108 W. Main St., and at the Buckeye Reclamation webpage. The review is expected to be completed in May 2025.
The five-year review is an opportunity for you to tell EPA about site conditions and any concerns you have.
