PCB Regulations
The PCB regulations implementing the PCB provisions in the Toxic Substances Control Act contain requirements for cleanup, storage, and disposal of PCBs, and decontamination of materials contaminated with PCBs among other requirements.
PCB Toxicological Information
Toxicological profiles are prepared in accordance with guidelines developed by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and the EPA. The original guidelines were published in the Federal Register on April 17, 1987. Each profile is revised and republished as necessary.

PCBs and Used Oil
Used oil containing PCBs at concentrations of 50 parts per million or greater is strictly regulated for disposal under the Toxic Substances Control Act. These regulations may not be avoided through dilution of PCB concentrations greater than 50 ppm to less than 50 ppm. Used oil containing PCB concentrations 2 ppm to < 50 ppm is subject to restrictions listed in title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations section 761.20(e), 40 CFR part 279, and any applicable state and local laws.

PCBs and e-Manifest
Learn more about manifest requirements for PCBs on our frequent questions about e-Manifest webpage, including required information for PCBs, identification numbers, and PCB waste codes by state.
PCBs and X-ray Machines
X-ray equipment must be disposed of through a commercial x-ray company or recycler to ensure proper disposal. You should ensure that disposal follows all state rules regarding handling and disposal of radioactive material and radiation-producing equipment.
Old machines (pre-1978) may contain PCBs in the capacitors, wiring insulation, etc. If machines contain PCBs at concentrations 50 ppm or greater, the PCB Items must be disposed of at a TSCA authorized facility.
