Use of Standardized Templates to Report Pet Spot-on Incidents: Conclusion of Pilot and Implementation Strategy
EPA’s templates help to standardize data in a format that can be readily analyzed in a meaningful way and helps the Agency to evaluate the safety of pet spot-on products. Below is guidance for manufacturers of spot-on products with registrations that require the submission of enhanced reporting and manufacturers submitting new spot-on products for registration.

EPA Actions
In 2018, EPA concluded a Pilot program that tested standardized template formats for submission of enhanced incident and sales data for pet spot on products registrations.
As part of the Pet Spot-on Enhanced Reporting Pilot, five registrants volunteered to submit quarterly pet spot-on product incident and sales data for 2016 using EPA’s draft standardized reporting templates. Throughout the duration of the pilot, EPA sought comment from the public and the pilot participants to inform the usability and feasibility of the templates. EPA adjusted the templates accordingly and determined that use of the standardized templates provides data in a format that can be readily analyzed in a meaningful way and improve the Agency’s ability to evaluate the safety of pet spot-on products.
Manufacturers of all spot-on products with registrations are required to submit enhanced reporting.
