Public Notice: EPA Begins 6th Review of Master Disposal Service Landfill Superfund Site
Summary
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting its 6th five-year review of the Master Disposal Superfund site, located at 19900 W. Capitol Drive in the town of Brookfield. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This review is expected to be completed in April 2025.
The 40-acre site formerly held an industrial landfill, which contaminated soil and groundwater with chemicals including arsenic, chromium, lead, trichloroethene, and benzene. The EPA’s cleanup remedy consisted of capping, fencing, controlling landfill gas, pumping and treating contaminated groundwater, implementing site controls, and monitoring. Operations and maintenance are ongoing.
