Cost-Effective Treatment Technologies for Small Drinking Water Systems Webinar Archive
On March 28, 2018, EPA Tools and Resources webinar series highlighted EPA ORD's developed and patented biological water treatment technology that removes ammonia. While ammonia itself is not a regulated contaminant, it interferes with some water treatment processes, such as arsenic removal. This webinar featured a pilot study conducted by EPA in the small town of Palo, Iowa, using the technology, demonstrating its ability to effectively remove ammonia and iron from the community’s source water, while keeping nitrite and nitrate levels below their maximum contaminant level in treated water. This cost-effective treatment technology provides a solution option for small drinking water systems in areas with high groundwater ammonia levels.
