Archana Lamichhane, Ph.D.
Dr. Archana Lamichhane is a Health Scientist at the U.S.EPA. She completed her Ph.D. in Epidemiology at the University of South Carolina, a M.S. in Geography at Southern Illinois University, and a B.Sc.(Hons) in Biological and Environmental Sciences at Kathmandu University. Dr. Lamichhane has more than 15 years of experience in public health and epidemiology research. Her research focuses on the roles of multi-level factors including individual-level determinants (e.g: diet, physical activity, health behaviors), social determinants (e.g: neighborhood socio-demographic composition, social support, access to healthy diet and physical activity environments), and environmental determinants (e.g: air and water pollutants, food toxins), on childhood growth and cognitive impairments, as well as the development of chronic diseases (such a diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases) during adulthood. She also has extensive experience in classroom-based teaching (served as faculty at UNC-CH School of Public Health), as well as designing and delivering trainings in community settings (via various national and international projects). In her current role at EPA, Dr. Lamichhane is involved in policy assessment of criteria air pollutants and is providing technical skills and directions to translate complex scientific information from epidemiology literature and assist in sound judgement of health and exposure/risk assessment associated with the review of NAAQS to inform science policy decisions. Dr. Lamichhane is very passionate about science and feel strongly about the importance of raising awareness about interlinkages between environment, ecosystem and human health among young growing minds.
