Industrial Waste Air Model (IWAIR)
Exposure to air pollutants, such as particulate matter or volatile organic compounds, may result in a variety of adverse health effects. The Industrial Waste Air Model (IWAIR) is a screening level model designed to estimate the risks to nearby workers and residents that may result from the inhalation of these pollutants. This model is composed of three main components:
- An emission model to estimate the release of volatile constituents;
- A dispersion model to estimate the fate and transport of constituents through the atmosphere and determine ambient air concentrations at specified receptor locations; and
- A risk model to calculate either the risk to exposed individuals or source constituent concentrations that can be protectively managed in the unit.
The program requires only a limited amount of site-specific information, including geographic location, source characteristics and receptor information.
IWAIR can assist facility managers, state and local regulators, engineers, and other stakeholders in evaluating potential inhalation risks from waste management practices. The model may also help determine whether the reuse of industrial materials is environmentally appropriate.
To install and run IWAIR, download the executable (iwair.exe) file below to your hard drive and double-click. You will be prompted for a directory to which the files should be extracted. Once complete, go to the directory that you specified and double-click the "setup.exe" file.
