Webinar - Electrification in the Urban Environment: Making Room for Express Delivery
Courier, express and parcel delivery service vehicles typically operate in congested urban areas on fixed routes and travel fewer than 100 miles a day, making these vehicles a good target for early electrification. This March 2022 webinar discussed a recent deployment of heavy-duty electric delivery vans in New York City (NYC).
NYC’s Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), Con Edison, and EPA's SmartWay program also shared information about deployment.
NYC shared how electric trucks and other alternatively-fueled vehicles support the city’s goals to reduce emissions, protect the climate and improve public health. Con Edison covered its programs to support the city’s clean energy and electrification goals in the transportation and freight sector, and its plans to meet the load demand of heavy electric vehicles. EPA’s SmartWay program, a public-private partnership focused on freight sustainability, offered their perspectives on electrification trends in urban delivery.
Speakers:
• NYCDOT - Susan McSherry and Mark Simon, Alternative Fuels Programs
• Con Edison - Britt Reichborn-Kjennerud, Section Manager, Electric Vehicles
• U.S. Environmental Protection Agency – Denise Kearns, Environmental Protection Specialist, SmartWay
