Intranet Standard: Enterprise Intranet Content Management System

All EPA internal content pages and web applications are required to follow this standard.
EPA’s Drupal-based Intranet Content Management System or Intranet CMS is the required platform for managing enterprise content for EPA’s Intranet. Enterprise content is described in the EPA’s Enterprise Intranet Content Standard.
Rationale
Currently, EPA uses a combination of different platforms to manage Intranet content: HTML pages hosted on web servers within separate TSMSS areas; Drupal-based Web Content Management Systems (WebCMS); Wordpress; and EPA’s Microsoft Office 365 SharePoint solution. Content is managed and maintained in a decentralized fashion by EPA’s program and regional offices with little overall standardization. As a result, information on EPA’s network is inconsistent, difficult to find, and maintained with varying degrees of quality. Employees waste time looking for the current, accurate, timely information they need to do their jobs.
EPA’s Enterprise Intranet CMS standard establishes a single platform for managing EPA’s most important internal content (identified in EPA’s Enterprise Intranet Content Standard) to make it easier for employees to create, publish and find the internal information they need.
Definitions
Intranet Content Management System: a platform that is used to create, publish and manage internal websites.
Enterprise Intranet Content- content that has been deemed necessary to be maintained in the Enterprise Intranet Content Management System to provide a consistent look and feel in order for employees to more easily find the information, tools and people they need in order to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.
TSSMS: a time sharing system management system where static html pages currently exists.
USWDS: a design system for the federal government that makes it easier to build accessible, mobile-friendly government websites for the American public.
Requirements
Each Program Office and Region will maintain its Enterprise Intranet Content in EPA’s Enterprise Intranet CMS. Enterprise content is defined in the EPA Enterprise Content Standard which is maintained by EPA’s Intranet Council. The Intranet Council is responsible for identifying EPA’s most important content so that it can be added to the Enterprise Intranet Content Standard and thus centrally maintained in EPA’s Enterprise Intranet CMS.
Program offices have the flexibility to add other content to their web areas in the Intranet CMS or to maintain content in SharePoint or one of EPA’s legacy intranet platforms. The Intranet CMS provides templates, which adhere to the U.S. Web Design System guidelines, the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act and EPA Intranet Web Standards.
