ERT: Risk Assessment
The Environmental Response Team provides nationwide expertise to On-Scene Coordinators and Remedial Project Managers on human health and ecological risk assessment in the removal and remedial programs as well as for emergency and time-critical response actions. The team provides internal support from national experts and leverages specialized contractor support for risk assessors conducting assessments for the Superfund program. This support includes the development of or review and comment on documents, logistical support in the field and laboratory, and specialized troubleshooting on sites that may have specific and particular contaminants and receptors. Assistance can range from problem formulation and conceptual site model development, support on policy and final decision making, sampling design, standard operating procedures, establishment of measurement and assessment endpoints, derivation of scientifically defensible numerical preliminary remedial goals and advice on risk management.
