Urban Air Toxics Reports to Congress

The Clean Air Act required EPA to submit two reports to Congress describing actions the EPA has taken to reduce public health risks from urban air toxics.

• The First Integrated Urban Air Toxics Report to Congress was published in July 2000. It expanded on information provided in the Integrated Urban Air Toxics Strategy, including the methodology for developing the emissions inventory used to identify the 30 urban air toxics. It also summarized information on risk assessments conducted by EPA and the states in several urban areas, and highlighted specific research needs.
   
• The Second Integrated Urban Air Toxics Report to Congress was published on August 21, 2014. The report discusses actions to address urban air toxics; provides background information on emissions, monitoring data and risks; highlights the significant progress in reducing air toxics in urban areas; and discusses areas of the country experiencing elevated risks from air toxics.
