Member and Observer Agencies
ISCORS is comprised of member and observer agencies. Member agencies represented on the committee are Federal agencies with responsibilities for radiation protection. Observer agencies are invited to participate because they have responsibilities for science and regulatory policies.
In addition, representatives from radiation control organizations have been invited as regular observers because of their expertise in regulatory implementation and oversight. These representatives are currently Earl Fordham (Washington) and Jeffrey Semancik (Connecticut). Other state representatives routinely participate on various subcommittees.

Historical Basis
The Interagency Steering Committee on Radiation Standards (ISCORS) formed in response to October 27, 1994, letters from Senator John Glenn to the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. In the letters, Senator Glenn charged the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to develop a plan for a “path forward” to address the inconsistencies, gaps, and overlaps in current radiation protection standards. ISCORS is one of the committees that Office of Science and Technology Policy recommended for achieving those goals.
