NPDES Permit Status Reports
Current Permit Backlog Status
These reports show the NPDES permit backlog status at a snapshot in time based on EPA databases and input from EPA regional offices and states. There are separate reports for EPA-issued and state-issued permits, covering both individual permits and general permit covered facilities. EPA considers existing permits (both individual and general) backlogged if the permit is in need of reissuance but the permitting authority does not reissue the permit by or before 180 days after the expiration date. EPA recognizes that state permitting authorities may have their own definitions of backlog. These reports will be updated on an annual basis.
