EPA Celebrates 500 Regional Support Projects
2024 marks the completion of 500 reuse planning and technical assistance support projects since the inception of EPA's Superfund Redevelopment Program in 1999. Regional support projects are a catalyst for reuse - they help communities, property owners, and local governments understand protective remedy components, plan appropriate potential future uses, eliminate administrative barriers, and launch into next steps for implementation. Through participatory planning and meaningful engagement, regional support projects promote equitable and protected reuse in underserved and overburdened communities across the United States.

Since 1999, EPA's Superfund Redevelopment Program has supported EPA staff and worked with communities, states, tribes, and others to consider appropriate future uses and integrate reuse options into the cleanup process. Redevelopment of Superfund sites supports EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment and our strategic goal to safeguard and revitalize communities.
