Mystery Bridge Rd/U.S. Highway 20
The 410-acre Mystery Bridge Rd/U.S. Highway 20 Superfund site includes residential and industrial areas in Evansville, Wyoming. Industrial activities began in 1923. They continue today. Site activities contaminated soil and groundwater with solvents and oils. EPA added the site to the National Priorities List (NPL) in 1990. As part of initial response actions, EPA connected nearby homes to the municipal water supply. EPA worked with the responsible parties, Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, Dow Chemical Company and Dowell Schlumberger, to treat soil and groundwater affected by releases on each of their properties. Institutional controls restrict future uses on each of these properties to industrial uses. In 2012, Tallgrass Energy Partners purchased the facility from Kinder Morgan Energy Partners. Tallgrass Energy Partners continues to conduct natural gas-processing activities on site. EPA took the former Kinder Morgan Energy Partners area of the site off the NPL in 2017. The Dow Chemical Company and Dowell Schlumberger property is in use for equipment storage. The neighborhood on site, which includes about 40 homes, remains in continued use. A Burlington-Northern railroad right of way separates industrial and residential areas of the site. The rail line is active. EPA took the rest of the site off the NPL in 2019.
