Overview of the SmartWay Verification Process for Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) New and Retread Tire Technologies for Tractors or Trailers
Due to the complexity of the verification process, EPA cannot guarantee specific time frames for completion. However, manufacturers can expedite the process by providing immediate, accurate, and complete responses to all EPA inquiries.
SmartWay logo is trademarked: Manufacturers and others are responsible for following the SmartWay logo use requirements included in the SmartWay Designated Licensing Agreement (pdf) (370 KB, OMB No: 5900-491, Expiration Date: 03/31/2025) and the Graphic Standards & Usage Guide (pdf) (882 KB, EPA-420-B-18-018). If a product is advertised inappropriately using the logo or a manufacturer violates logo use requirements, EPA reserves the right to withhold verification.
EPA updated the Retread Protocols for retread technologies. The updated protocols allow for the use of any SmartWay Verified casing in verification tests and sets rolling resistance targets for retread technologies that are equal to new tire targets.
The SmartWay Verification Program evaluates the ability of LRRs to reduce resistance and improve fuel economy or emissions for Class 8 tractor-trailers.
