Join the Green Power Partnership
EPA’s Green Power Partnership seeks to increase demand for green powerGreen power is a subset of renewable energy and represents those renewable energy resources and technologies that provide the highest environmental benefit. The U.S. voluntary market defines green power as electricity produced from solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, eligible biomass, and low-impact small hydroelectric sources. A green power resource produces electricity with no fossil-fuel based GHG emissions, has a superior environmental profile to conventional power generation, and must be generated from a project placed into service in the last 15 years. Customers often buy green power for its zero emissions profile and carbon footprint reduction benefits. by working with organizations and communities across the United States to access, choose, and use green power. By using green power, EPA Partners can help reduce the effects of air pollution and emissions associated with conventional electricity use while supporting the domestic development of clean energy resources.
There are two types of Partners:
Organizations
Our organizational Partners include a wide variety of leading institutions, such as:
- Large companies with U.S.-based operations.
- Small and medium-sized U.S.-based businesses.
- Local, state, tribal, and federal governments.
- Colleges and universities.
- Non-governmental organizations.
Organizations ineligible to join the program include:
- Green power providers.
- Individuals and private residences.
EPA invites your organization to join the hundreds of other organizations that are improving their environmental performance and reducing the risks associated with climate change by switching to green power.
Communities
Our community Partners represent a combination of local governments, businesses, residents, and institutions that are located within the geographic boundaries of a U.S.-based community, such as a town, village, city, county, or tribal nation. Under this Partnership approach, EPA requires that the community at large use green power in amounts that meet EPA minimum usage requirements.
Green Power Communities are listed on the GPP’s Green Power Community page as Partners and are ranked based on their annual green power usage and the green power percentage of their total electricity usage.
